You're right about the further we get from it.

It's all MOPE. The wizards controlling the money and pulling the strings don't want the real info to get out and are attempting to make it all go away by blowing smoke.

But I'm thinking it won't because it's likely we'll be seeing more occurrences of the same kind of event rather shortly.

If you've not listened to Jim Sinclair's interview yet, it's a must:

I have been customer of MF Global since the REFCO days. The liquidation of client assets is in shambles. The Trustee has returned 60% of client funds, not to the clients, but to FCM's of the Trustee's choosing without the permission of the client's. Upon inquiry the client is informed by the FCM that he must contact a new IB to represent his account with the FCM. The new IB was assigned to the account by the Trustee. After a little digging I learned my new IB was a firm made up of former MF Global employee's. I was never informed of this fact.
Let's give the remnants of a bankrupt company back to the very people who caused its demise without any disclosure to the client.
     Legal,questionable. Ethical, not a chance.

And yet the Republicans are fighting giving more money and adding regulations to the SEC and CFTC to combat fraud and to fix these problems.

In other words, the Republicans are saying "screw you" retail investor.

"Perhaps most blame should go to the trustee, who didn’t seem to understand the rules of the game. But the CFTC deserves as much blame, abdicating its responsibility when a huge majority of the MF Global accounts were futures based. "

True. But how is it that SIPC assigned this to a clueless trustee, who sits on their own board? There will be lots of time for Monday morning review. Meanwhile, the US court system appears to be failing as well.

Tragic all around.

Answer this question Dan, did Amaranth affect NG prices? If so, and I firmly believe they did, then these limits are needed because if Amaranth did it so can others.

The time horizons are quite different. Often as not, speculators use far more leverage than real investors who use little if any. Oh, and then there is short selling, especially naked short selling.

All that said, the real difference is the massive level of protection and mollycoddling given by the GOP in DC to speculators. That comes at the expense of American entrepreneurs and families seeking to save for their children's education or their retirement.

"Collateral standards will be far more self-set by the parties for exempt swaps but not for futures."
I'm not even sure what this means. Nor the entire article. Who is he speaking to?
