…and the law won

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

CNBC is reporting that Sam Israel III turned himself in the morning, surrendering to police in Southwick, MA.

This is one of those good news/bad news situations. It’s clearly good news that the guy who perpetrated a $450 million fraud is going to serve time for the crimes in which he participated.

It’s bad news in that by the time I get the video from “America’s Most Wanted,” which aired on June 28, the story will be kind of stale; and my hopes of seeing him arrested on an episode of COPS have been dashed. Couldn’t you just see him racing out of his mobile home, disoriented and wearing in a dingy wife beater, flashing his blue bird tatoo? Am I the only one laughing?

I guess I’m going to have to find something new to goof on in the blog.

Have you heard the one about Hakan Yalincak? Stay tuned…

Suicide is painless, but love hurts

Friday, June 20th, 2008

CNN is reporting that Sam Israel III’s girl friend Debra Ryan has been arrested and faces 10 years in prison for helping the convicted felon and former hedge fund manager in his failure to report to prison. Israel has been sentenced to 20 years for his role in the $450 million fraud and collapse of the Bayou family of hedge funds.

According to the story, Ryan has admitted to helping Israel load up a white 2007 Coach Freelander RV, which he parked in a rest stop in upstate New York.

I hear Canada is pretty this time of year…

Armed and dangerous

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Since Tuesday we have been following the story of Sam Israel III’s disappearance; and while there have been many stories, there have been only a few real developments:

Initially, it was reported that a security camera showed Israel getting out of his car and into another vehicle, then there was a hasty denial.

Authorities have given up dragging the river. Interestingly, of the 40 suicides that have taken place on the bridge, 39 of the bodies have been found.

And this morning, the Associated Press is reporting that Federal Marshals have issued Wanted posters and that Israel should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

Now to get a copy of the poster….

Down on the Bayou…

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Remember Samuel Israel III of Bayou Hedge Fund Group? Back in April he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for fraud and variety of other ways of stealing $450 million from customers.

This morning, the Associated Press is reporting that a GMC Envoy registered to Israel was found with the phrase “Suicide is Painless” written in the dust on the hood of the vehicle, which was apparently abandoned on the Bear Mountain Bridge over the Hudson River.

Israel was to surrender to authorities on June 9 to begin serving his sentence. No body has been found and no one has reported seeing anyone jump from the bridge.
