OIC 2010: Options leaders talk about what's next

Regulatory reform and growth in the options industry are two prevailing themes today at the annual Options Industry Conference in Phoenix.  At a Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) media breakfast, talk of the exchange’s upcoming IPO efforts was kept firmly off the table, while regulatory issues were definitely on. Mutual recognition still a future for option traders

While unfettered access to international markets is yesterday’s news in futures land, it’s still an unrealized aspiration for U.S. based options traders, but Heike Eckert, vice president of Eurex , is on a mission to rally support from U.S. based options traders and spur the process. Eckert says that the SEC is indeed open to it, and in 2007 initiated the “mutual recognition framework” discussion, but has yet to come up with an agreement with the European Union or the individual countries to make it work.
